Part-Time Sales Associate

Work in our fast-paced, inspiring retail bead store in Alameda. We hire friendly people who want to inspire others through their love of beading and to provide excellent customer service. The associate will also be responsible for maintaining the store space, computer work, inventory work and other behind-the-scenes tasks involved with running a retail operation.

The following is required as part of your regular work schedule:

  • At least 12 hours per week
  • One weekend day every week (6-8 hour shifts)
  • One to two weekday evening shifts per week (minimum 4:00-7:30pm, sometimes later)
  • Both weekend days during bead shows where we are selling. This includes the Northern California Bead Bazaar in the spring and the Bay Area Bead Extravaganza on November 12th & 13th, 2011.
  • Thanksgiving weekend: two out of the three days - Fri, Sat, Sun.
  • One weekend day every weekend in December
  • Evenings in Dec. until 9:30 pm, especially the entire week before Christmas
  • Attend monthly paid staff meetings (approx. 2 hours) outside of your regular work schedule.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Previous beading experience
  • Friendly, outgoing personality
  • Strong computer skills.
    - Need to operate different styles of mice with ease and speed (without a significant learning curve)
    - Previous experience with Excel, Word, and Windows platform
    - Ability to navigate quickly between open windows on a computer
    - Ability to learn new programs with a positive, can-do spirit
    - Have used computer at least 4 days a week in the past 2 years as part of your normal routine

Other Qualifications:

  • Strong work ethic

  • Ability to work on their feet in a fast paced environment for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds, bend and climb ladders in order to do floor displays, backroom activities and store maintenance.

Employees are eligible for jewelry-making classes, employee discounts, and opportunities to learn to teach classes. Opportunities exist for advancement with additional responsibility and compensation.

Compensation including commission ranges from $10 - $12/hour. Training wage during 1st few weeks: $8/hour. Sales Associate is eligible for commission after initial training period.
