Price is for one bead. Approximately 16 x 7mm. Bloodstone is a traditional birthstone for March (as well as aquamarine). The name of Bloodstone was derived by the stone's appearance; usually a very dark green with splotches or veins of red resembling droplets of blood. Actually, the red spots are caused by iron oxide and the green color is from chlorite particles. Bloodstone, sometimes called Blood Jasper in the trade, is not quite a jasper but rather a dark green Chalcedony, and which contains inclusions of red to brown. Being a natural color, this is not subject to discoloration the way treated chalcedony is. This blood stone was mined in Africa.
